A common complaint I hear against Christians is that our pursuit of moral living makes us legalistic and self-righteous. Such accusations fail to acknowledge the difference between actual righteousness (living as God commands) and self-righteousness (living according to what humans think is good). Humans should never add their own rules to God’s commands, as the legalistic Pharisees did, but we should be ardent legalists when trying to keep God’s commands. It’s called pursuing holiness, and the Bible encourages Christians to pursue holiness.

Brothers and Sisters, if someone makes fun of you for holding to Biblical morals, then you’ve been persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Rejoice! It’s an honor to endure suffering for obeying Christ. Never in all of history has God come down to earth to be born in human flesh. Imagine God Almighty, who lives in unapproachable light, leaving heaven to come down to a stable in the form of a needy infant!

During His time on earth, Jesus did what no human could ever do—He lived a life of perfect obedience to God. He was blameless in every way, which made Him the only acceptable Passover lamb that could cleanse humankind from sin—once and for all. On the cross, Jesus willingly died the death we all deserve so that whoever believes in Him can have eternal life.

Christmas is when we celebrate that Jesus took on flesh to save all flesh. Do you want to be saved by Jesus? Do you want to be with God, rather than without Him for eternity? All you have to do is believe that Jesus came to earth, died, and rose again. Believe that only Jesus is the way to the Father. Whether you believe in Jesus or not, He defeated death for you. He defeated death for all humans when He went to the cross. At the appointed times, God will raise all humans from the dead, some to eternal life with Him, others to eternal torment in the Lake of Fire (Daniel 12:2, Revelation 20:15).

You have until the end of your life to decide where you will spend eternity. Don’t wait until the end of your life. Believe today. Believe, right now. That’s all you have to do to secure your eternal life with God. Just believe that Jesus died to take the sin from your soul and death from your body. Believe that He rose from the dead so that you also could be raised from the dead.

A common criticism I hear against Christians is that we’re close-minded because we believe Jesus is the only way to God. These critics value an open mind above all else. A truly open mind is one that considers all things while recognizing the truth when it hears it. A mind that’s open to everything, but refuses to place truth on its rightful pedestal, is actually a closed mind. Closed to the truth, such a mind cannot distinguish light from darkness. It cannot see the masterpiece from the counterfeits.

Look to the masterpiece today. See the light. Open your mind to Jesus. Believe that He is the only true Savior of the world. Jesus is the only one who can join humans to God because He is fully human and fully God. Be the owner of a truly open mind.
